National Finals Rodeo: Richmond Champion gets back on track with 3rd-place finish in 9th round

For the fifth time at the 2020 National Finals Rodeo, Richmond Champion leaves with some money added to his total.

The Stevensville bareback rider placed third in the ninth go-round at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas on Friday. Champion scored an 86.5 on Great Nation to win $15,654. It was Champion's third top-three placing at the 2020 NFR -- which includes a first-round win -- and he moved up two spots in the world standings back to No. 5 with $142,123.

Billings' Clay Tryan and partner Jake Long of Coffeyville, Kansas, placed third in the team roping on Friday. Tryan and Long completed their run in 4.1 seconds to win $15,654. For Tryan, the run was his fourth time placing in the top three at the NFR, which included a run of three straight second-place finishes from rounds four through six. Tryan one again cracked the top five and sits at No. 5 in the world standings for team roping headers with $140,540.

Helena's Chase Tryan and partner Brenten Hall of Jay, Oklahoma, failed to record a time in the team roping on Friday. Tryan and Hall have not placed again at the NFR since winning the fourth round. Tryan fell one spot to No. 14 in the world standings with $90,145.

Deer Lodge's Chase Brooks and Hillsdale, Wyoming's Brody Cress both failed to place in the money in the saddle bronc riding. Cress scored a 79.5 on Three Belles while Brooks scored a 72.5 on 2 Cookies. After placing in the money in the first four rounds, Brooks has not placed in five straight rounds but remains ninth in the world standings with $106,881. Cress dropped one spot to No. 4 with $158,193.

Miles City's Haven Meged did not place in the money for the third straight round after winning the sixth go-round. Meged finished his run in 9.6 seconds and dropped one spot in the world standings to No. 8 with $115,248.

Circle's Lisa Lockhart completed her ninth go-round in the barrel racing in 27.16 seconds to place out of the money. Lockhart has placed five times at the NFR, including a third-round win, and sits at No. 5 in the world standings with $119,866.
