National Finals Rodeo: Clay Tryan, Brody Cress earn 2nd-place finishes in 5th go-round

For the second straight night, Clay Tryan of Billings and his partner, Jake Long of Coffeyville, Kansas, finished in second place in the team roping in the fifth go-round at the 2020 National Finals Rodeo on Monday at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.

One night after finishing one place behind his cousin, Chase Tryan, Clay Tryan and Long completed their run in 3.7 seconds to win $20,731 to place in second outright. Monday's performance moved Tryan up six spots in the world standings for team roping headers to No. 5 with $104,155.

Chase Tryan and his partner, Brenten Hall of Jay, Oklahoma, finished out of the money. Chase Tryan dropped from No. 6 to No. 9 in the world standings for team roping heelers with $90,145.

Brody Cress of Hillsdale, Wyoming, finished in a tie for second place in the saddle bronc riding in Monday's go-round. Cress rode Special Delivery to a score of 89 to win $18,192. Cress remains fourth in the world standings with $133,231.

For the first time in the 2020 NFR, Deer Lodge's Chase Brooks finished out of the money in the saddle bronc. Brooks earned an 84.5 on Stampede Warrior in Monday's ride. Brooks had placed in the previous four rounds and dropped one spot to No. 6 in the world standings with $106,881.

Miles City's Haven Meged finished in the money in the tie-down roping for the second consecutive night. Meged completed his run in 8.4 seconds to place fifth and earn $6,769. Meged, the reigning world champion, moved up one spot to ninth in the world standings with $90,978.

Stevensville's Richmond Champion placed out of the money for only the second time at this year's NFR. Champion missed the cut by half-a-point after riding Redzilla to a score of 85.5. Champion fell one spot to No. 5 in the world standings with $119,700.

Circle's Lisa Lockhart, who now resides in Oelrichs, South Dakota, finished out of the money in the barrel racing on Monday, as well, but remains in seventh place in the world standings with $88,135. Hailey Kinsel of Cotulla, Texas, wife to Volborg native and two-time PBR world champion Jess Lockwood, continues to dominate the barrel racing as she won her third go-round in five tries at this year's NFR with a time of 16.92 seconds to win $26,231 and bump her total to $187,884.
