BILLINGS – It was a good night to be from the Great White North in Billings Saturday.

Canadian bareback rider Cole Goodine won his event, while fellow Alberta native Clay Elliott tied for first in his saddle bronc section at the 24th annual Chase Hawks Memorial Roughstock Rodeo inside Rimrock Auto Arena.

Goodine scored 87 points to beat 19 others in the bareback competition. The Carbon, Alberta cowboy is a three-time Canadian Finals Rodeo qualifier.

Elliott, who has qualified for the National Finals Rodeo three straight years, tied 2012 world champion Jesse Wright with 83.5 points in the first saddle bronc section of the night.

Many came to see local bull rider Parker Breding, fresh off a World No. 3 finish at this year’s NFR. Breding didn’t disappoint, with an 81.5-point ride to finish second in his section. Idaho bull rider Garrett Smith was the only one to beat him, with 84.5 points.
