MONTENEGRO – Former Fairfield High School and Gonzaga star Jill Barta scored a team-high 19 points in her debut for professional team Buducnost Bemax in Montenegro.

She also added four rebounds and two blocked shots in a 74-68 loss to Beroe of the Women’s Adriatic Basketball Association (WABA). Click here for the Box Score.

Barta was 7 of 13 from the field, and 3 of 8 from beyond the arc. With Bemax trailing 68-55 late in the fourth quarter, Barta scored nine points in the final four minutes to pull her team within four points. But the rally ultimately came up short.

After leading Fairfield to 104 straight wins and four Class B state championships in her high school career, Barta played college basketball at Gonzaga before leaving after her junior year to enter the WNBA draft.

Barta was drafted 32nd overall and joined the Minnesota Lynx for training camp but was cut before the start of the regular season. She took a teaching job in Big Sandy before getting the itch to play again.
