LARAMIE, Wyo. – University of Wyoming head football coach Craig Bohl announced on Friday the hiring of Klayton Adams as Offensive Line Coach for Wyoming Football. Adams comes to Wyoming from the University of Colorado where he coached for the past six seasons.
“We are really excited about the addition of Klayton Adams to coach our offensive line,” said Bohl. “Klayton enjoys a great national reputation for developing dominant offensive linemen. His experience within the Rocky Mountain region, the West Coast and the Mountain West make him a natural fit for our program.”

I can’t wait to get started working with the players here.”
Adams most recently served as the co-offensive coordinator and offensive line coach at Colorado in 2018. He coached at CU from 2013-18 under head coach Mike MacIntyre. Adams began at Colorado coaching the Buff running backs and tight ends for the 2013, ‘14 and ‘15 seasons. He coached the offensive line his final three seasons (2016-18) and added the co-offensive coordinator responsibility in 2018.
Adams was part of a 2016 CU team that posted a 10-4 record, won the Pac-12 South Division to earn a spot in the Pac-12 Championship Game and advanced to the Alamo Bowl. Colorado ended the 2016 season ranked 10th in the final College Football Playoff rankings, 15th in the final Coaches Poll and 17th in the final Associated Press poll.
His offensive line group blocked for current Denver Bronco running back Phillip Lindsay, who rushed for 1,000 yards for the Buffs in both the 2016 (1,189 yards) and 2017 (1,474 yards) seasons. It marked the first time in University of Colorado history that a running back had rushed for 1,000 or more yards in consecutive seasons.
Before joining the CU coaching staff, Adams coached the tight ends under MacIntyre at San Jose State in 2011 and’12. The 2012 Spartans achieved an 11-2 overall record and a 5-1 conference mark to finish second in their final season in the Western Athletic Conference prior to joining the Mountain West in 2013. SJSU defeated Bowling Green, 29-20, in the 2012 Military Bowl in Washington D.C.
Adams coached two seasons at Sacramento State of the Big Sky Conference from 2009-10. He served as the offensive line/tight ends coach in 2009, continued to coach the offensive line in 2010 and was slated to become the offensive coordinator for the Hornets in 2011 before accepting his new position at San Jose State for the 2011 season.
Immediately prior to joining the staff at Sacramento State, Adams was an offensive graduate assistant, working with the tight ends, at the University of Washington from January to June of 2009.
Adams’ first full-time college coaching position was as the offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Western Washington University for the 2007 and 2008 seasons.
He began his coaching career as a student assistant at his alma mater, Boise State, in 2005 and continued as a graduate assistant coach for the Broncos in 2006. The Broncos won consecutive Western Athletic Conference titles in 2005 and ‘06. The 2005 team was 9-4 overall and played in the MPC Computers Bowl. The 2006 Broncos went 13-0 and defeated Oklahoma in a memorable 43-42 overtime victory in the Tostitos Fiesta Bowl. Boise State ended the 2006 season ranked No. 5 in the Associated Press poll, No. 6 in the Coaches poll and No. 8 in the final BCS rankings.
Adams played college football at Boise State where he lettered at center in 2003 and 2004 as the Broncos won Western Athletic Conference titles both seasons and compiled a two-year record of 24-2. Boise State posted a 13-1 record in 2003, won the Forth Worth Bowl and concluded the season ranked No. 15 in the Coaches Poll and No. 16 in the Associated Press Poll. In 2004, the Broncos went 11-1, played in the Liberty Bowl and were ranked No. 10 in the final BCS rankings, No. 12 by AP and No. 13 in the Coaches Poll. Adams earned Second Team All-Western Athletic Conference honors his senior season.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in mass communication with an emphasis in journalism from Boise State in 2005.
Adams was born Feb. 13, 1983, in Sacramento, Calif. Adams and his wife, Stefani, have three daughters, Mya, Emmy and Harper.
