GREAT FALLS – The Missoula Sentinel boys and Bozeman girls lead the team races at the State AA tennis tournament in Great Falls after the first day of play.

The Spartan boys lead the way with 16 points, ahead of Bozeman with nine points. The Hawk girls have 18 points, while Helena High is in second place with 12 points.

Friday’s weather forecast prompted tournament officials to accelerate the schedule, with athletes playing through the semifinals before rain is expected to roll in.

The championship matches for each of the four divisions are set. Bozeman’s Maicy McCarty will face Missoula Hellgate’s Hannah Worden for a girls singles title. Bozeman’s Connor Joly and Glacier’s Rory Smith will face off in the boys singles final.

The Billings West duo of Jayden Ostler and Timmy Johnson will take on Sentinel’s Connor D’Angelo and Cody Curtis in the boys doubles final. And the girls doubles final will pit Billings Senior’s Gigi Montague and Anna Wood against Bozeman’s Laurel Ward and Sasha Hathaway.

If the weather stays dry, the finals will be held at the Great Falls CMR courts. If there is rain, they will be moved indoors at Meadowlark Country Club. Officials will make that call Thursday night based on the forecast.
