BILLINGS – The Bozeman Hawks reigned supreme on the tennis courts this week, as the boys and girls both took home team titles at the Eastern AA tennis divisional in Billings.

The boys, behind an individual title by singles player Conner Joly,  notched 35 total points to secure first place by seven. Billings Skyview came in second with 28, while Billings West barely edged Billings Senior for third, 24-23.

Joly lost the first set to Skyview’s Aiden Binau 4-6 before rallying in the final two sets 6-1, 6-2 for the singles crown.

Bozeman’s No. 1 doubles team of Johnny Kamp and Levi Collins cruised into the championship match on Friday but could not overcome the Billings West duo of Jayden Ostler and Timmy Johnson. Ostler and Johnson got off to a fast start and took home the first set 6-1. They were up 5-3 and looking for the clean sweep before Kamp and Collins caught fire and won the next four games to steal the second set 7-5.

The Golden Bears quickly recovered in the third set and ended the drama, as West won the boys doubles title 6-1, 5-7, 6-1 Friday afternoon at Pioneer Park.

The team race on the girls side came down to a single point. Bozeman squeaked by Billings Senior 42-41 behind a straight-set singles title from Maicy McCarty.

McCarty made it look easy, as she beat Billings Senior’s Kirsten Kraske 6-1, 6-0.

Senior’s tandem of Annie Woods and Gigi Montague kept their perfect season alive by winning 6-1, 6-0 in the championship match over Bozeman’s Ward and Hathaway.

Billings West secured third place with 16 points, while Skyview finished fourth with 11 total points.
