Laurel won four high school state championships this fall to take the lead in the Class A all-sports rankings.

The all-sports rankings were calculated by applying point totals to team finishes in the fall sports of boys and girls cross country, boys and girls golf, boys and girls soccer, volleyball and football. Ten points were awarded for a state title, seven points for a second-place finish, six for a third-place finish and so on, down to one point for an eighth-place finish.

The Locomotives paced Class A with 46 cumulative points, 40 of those coming from their state titles in girls cross country, girls golf, girls soccer and football. The Locomotives added a third-place finish in boys golf.

Whitefish finished second in the all-sports rankings, totaling 37 points, thanks in large part to state championships in boys golf and boys soccer. The Bulldogs also finished second in girls soccer and fourth in girls soccer, while adding sixth- and seventh-place finish in girls and boys cross country, respectively.

Billings Central and Columbia Falls both scored 35 points in the fall to tie for third in the all-sports rankings.

The Rams added another volleyball state title to their trophy case, and they also finished second in both football and boys golf. They tied for second and third in boys and girls soccer, as well.

Columbia Falls, meanwhile, was second in girls cross country, boys soccer and volleyball, tied for second/third in girls soccer, third in boys cross country and tied for fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth in football.

Corvallis is fifth in the all-sports rankings with 26 points, followed by Hamilton with 21.5. The Broncs won the boys cross country state championship.
