HELENA– The Helena High girls basketball team celebrated winning it’s third straight state title at the Butte Civic Center on March 9, but just a week and half later, the Bengals got to celebrate for a final time whilst aboard a fire truck back home in Helena

“It’s not one of those things that gets old. It’s pretty amazing, actually. Pretty proud of these girls for the tournament they put in, and to be able to say they are part of history is pretty cool,” said head coach Eric Peterson.

Though the ride was cool, Helena High senior Vanessa Walsh took a moment to reflect on the journey to get there.

“All the hard work to get into it and the team chemistry it took. Falling short at divisionals was a big wake-up call, and then coming into state it was just a great team effort to get there,” said Walsh. “In the (semifinal game against Helena Capital) it was a great showing of our character, coming back, playing as a team to come back and win that game and get ourselves to where we want to be.”
