HELENA — The Helena High Bengals rocked the house at Vigilante Stadium this past Friday as they beat the Kalispell Glacier Wolfpack 21-7 in the first round of the Class AA football playoffs.

Prior to last Friday’s game, both teams met during Week 4 of the regular season in Kalispell. The Wolfpack took that game by wide margin of 48-14.

“We cleaned up some of the stuff that we did wrong during the season,” Helena High head coach Scott Evans said. “We played a better scheme and we did some things right. I don’t know if we played cleaned up, like got rid of the scheme that we did, we just did it better.”

For junior running back Logan Brown, who finished with 34 total yards on an extremely windy night, the stakes were high for he and his teammates.

“It was a big game,” said Brown. “I mean, it was a playoff game, nobody wanted to go home and lose. Everybody just wanted to win even more.”

Senior free safety Connor Murgel said that the team made a few mistakes in the win, but the Bengals would take this week to sharpen things up before they take the field next.

The second round of the playoffs will pit Helena High against the Billings West Golden Bears in Billings on Friday Nov. 9, at 7 p.m.
