SUPERIOR — The Alberton-Superior Mountain Cats advanced to the 8-Man state championship football game with a 44-14 win over Great Falls Central on Saturday in Superior in the state semifinals.

Trey Green ran for three touchdowns while Bryan Mask ran for two more and Jack Calloway added another for the Mountain Cats (12-0). Shane Girres scored a pair of touchdowns for GFCC which finished the season 8-3.

Green scored his first touchdown on a 16-yard scamper in the first quarter. After a failed 2-point try, they led 6-0.

It didn't take long for Great Falls Central to respond. The Mustangs appeared to line up for a field goal on fourth and 12 from Clark Fork's 19, but Girres took the snap and found Colby Aderhold wide open for the touchdown to tie it up at 6-6.

Green quickly got his second score of the game to make it 14-6. Then, Calloway went 43 yards on his touchdown to make it 22-6 with 6:35 left in the first half.

Girres scored on a 48-yard keeper with just under four minutes to play in the second quarter, but from there the Mountain Cats took over. After heading into halftime up 22-14, Green added his third touchdown with 7:28 left in the third quarter and Mask scored once in the third and his second touchdown in the final quarter to salt the game away.

Alberton-Superior will take on Fairview in the 8-Man state championship game next weekend.

Fairview 48, Fort Benton 8

FAIRVIEW — Cody Asbeck scored on Fairview’s first offensive play of the game, and the Warriors never looked back on their way to a 48-8 win over Fort Benton in the semifinal round of the 8-Man football state playoffs on Saturday.

Asbeck started the scoring with his 49-yard run on the game’s first play. On his next touch, he scored from 41 yards out, and it was 14-0 Fairview in a blink. The Warriors then recovered an onside kick, which ultimately set up a 3-yard TD for Alex Schriver.

Asbeck’s third touchdown — a 21-yard run — gave Fairview a 28-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Schriver added two second-quarter touchdowns and Jessie Selting ran in another from 30 yards to make it 48-0 at halftime.

Hayden Axtman ran in a 50-yard Fort Benton touchdown in the fourth quarter.

Fairview (11-0) will now meet Alberton-Superior next Saturday in the 8-Man state championship game at Rocky Mountain College.
