Huntley Project defeats Columbus-Absarokee in wrestling dual to cap unique night

COLUMBUS - The Huntley Project wrestling team took down rival Columbus-Absarokee in a dual, 45-27, to cap a unique Thursday night in Columbus. The wrestling dual came between the varsity girls and boys basketball games between the Red Devils and Cougars.

Huntley Project, the No. 2 ranked team in the latest Class B-C wrestling poll, had victories from a number of its title contenders. Gavin Nedens, the top-ranked wrestler at 103 pounds, won a 9-5 decision over fifth-ranked Guy Williams. Nedens scored a reversal in the closing seconds to seal the win.

William Loveridge, the No. 3 ranked wrestler at 170 pounds, made quick work of Gage Summers, and second-ranked 285-pounder Journey Grimsrud scored an emphatic pin of Colton Beer late in the third period.

Freshman Cooper Lane also took down fifth-ranked Wyatt Hood to score crucial points for the Red Devils. Columbus-Absarokee had a pin from defending state champion and top-ranked 120-pounder Tanner Cook.

Both teams will be at the Cowboy Invitational in Miles City on Friday and Saturday.
