Helena High splits night against Sentinel, Big Sky

HELENA — The Helena High Bengals split their two duals on Friday, falling to the Sentinel Spartans, 46-21, and beating the Big Sky Eagles, 53-18.

In the afternoon dual against the Spartans, the Bengals got off to a hot start scoring 15 points on two falls and a decision in the first three matches. After the first three, the Spartans rattled off wins in 7 of the next 8 matches, while racking up two forfeits leading to the win.

A few hours later, the Bengals played host to the Big Sky Eagles and both teams sized each other up for most of the match, the turning point in the dual was when the Bengals' Kaleb Kirklin gritted out a win at 160 pounds over Big Sky's Chris Dill to take a 14 point lead in the dual. The Big Sky Eagles then forfeited two of the final three matches, ultimately pushing the Bengals even further out in front to the 53-18 win.
