Heart Butte girls, Simms boys win doubleheader split

SIMMS — The Heart Butte girls basketball team used a big second half to top Simms 57-56 in a thriller on Friday night.

Freshman Alaina Spoonhunter led the Warriors with 20 points, including 12 in the third quarter on four 3-pointers. Sophomore Alyona Spoonhunter added 13 points.

Laura Zeitzke led all scorers with 22 points for Simms, while Taylee Sawyer joined her in double digits with 11 points.

The lead changed several times in the final few minutes. Simms had the ball trailing by one with 6.7 seconds left but couldn’t get a potential game-winning shot off in time after a loose ball.

BOYS: Simms 61, Heart Butte 47

The Simms boys used a big third quarter to come from behind and beat Heart Butte 61-47 on Friday, taking sole possession of District 10C in the process. Both teams were undefeated entering the game.

Kaidin Thibert led all scorers with 23 points, mostly in the low post. Caden Smerker added 16 and Dallin Nelson scored 11 points for the Tigers.

Jordan Calf Looking led Heart Butte with 16 points, Cameron Falcon added 11.

Heart Butte led 13-8 after one quarter and 26-23 at halftime. But Simms exploded for 24 points in the third quarter, holding the Warriors to just 10 points in the frame to take a 47-36 lead into the fourth quarter.
