PHOENIX – The University of Providence men’s basketball team closed the Cactus Classic with an 83-65 win over Embry Riddle. The Argos went 2-1 at the showcase in Phoenix.
Senior forward Jake Wetzel led the Argos with 21 points off the bench on 7-of-14 from the field, including 7-of-13 from beyond the arc. Wetzel added 10 rebounds for his second career double-double.
Jalen Shepard added 20 points and five steals in a winning effort. The Eagles were led by Nick Johnson with 15 points in defeat.
Providence jumped out to a 48-33 lead at halftime and held a double-digit lead the rest of the way.
The Argos (10-3) are off until a Dec. 29 road game against Lethbridge, before returning home and resuming Frontier Conference play Jan. 4 against Lewis-Clark State.
