Providence volleyball falls to 0-2 in pool play at NAIA tournament

SIOUX CITY, Iowa – Argo Volleyball fell in a competitive three-set match against No. 1 Grand View, 25-18, 25-19, 27-25. The Argos took a lead early in all three sets, but the Vikings had an answer to snub the Argos thirst for an upset.

The Argos opened the match with the early lead as they outscored the Vikings, 8-4. However, the Vikings responded with a 9-1 run to take the lead from the Argos, 13-9. The Vikings closed out the set as they outscored the Argos 12-9 to take the 1-0 advantage, 25-18.

The second set began much like the opening set as the Argos held the advantage early, notching nine points while the Vikings only collected seven. Grand View would then go on a 7-1 run to take a 13-10 lead. A 4-3 run in the Argos favor cut the deficit down to two, but the Vikings responded with a 5-2 run to stretch their lead to five, 21-16. Three-straight Argos points, including kills from Kelsey Shaver and Sydney Andersen brought the match back within two yet again, 21-19, but the Vikings closed the set out with a 4-0 run to grab the 25-19 victory, 2-0.

The Argos took control of the third set as they went on a 7-2 run. Both teams traded points as the Argos maintained their five-point advantage to a 15-10 lead. The Vikings then scored eight-straight points to take the lead from
Providence, 18-15. The Argos would eventually bring things within one at 23-22, before Grand View would notch another point to hold match point. The Argos then scored three points from an Andersen and Ember Schwindt kill and a Vikings attack error to hold the 25-24 advantage, but the Vikings proved to have the upper hand as they notched three of their own to close out the set and take the match, 27-25.

Andersen notched a team-high 13 kills in the loss, while teammate Shaver earned a double, collecting 10 kills and 19 digs. Paige Jensen tallied 23 assists, while Cydney Finberg garnered 16. On the back line, Averi Dyer tallied a team-high 21 digs.
