Rocky Mountain College women, Providence men win Frontier Conference openers

GREAT FALLS -- Rocky Mountain College traveled to Great Falls for a Frontier Conference basketball doubleheader at the University of Providence on Thursday. The Battlin' Bear women won a hard-fought 86-77 overtime thriller, while the Argo men notched an 83-71 win.

Rocky Mountain College women 86, Providence 77 (OT)

Markaela Fancis scored 27 points and grabbed 14 rebounds to lead the No. 25 Rocky Mountain College Bears to an 86-77 overtime win to open Frontier Conference play. Destinee Pointer added 17 points and Kloie Thatcher scored 15 for RMC.

Emilee Maldonado led the Argos with 21 points. Parker Esary pitched in 16 points, whole Bailey Cartwright recorded a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds.

Rocky (6-1 overall, 1-0 Frontier Conference) now heads to Havre to face MSU-Northern on Friday. Providence will host Montana Western on Saturday.

Providence men 83, Rocky Mountain 71

Redshirt freshman Dawson Fowler scored a team-high 15 points to lead a balanced Argo attack in an 83-71 win over Rocky Mountain. Joel Thabize and Jake Wetzel reached double-figure scoring with 15 and 11 points, respectively.

Clayton Ladine scored a game-high 20 points for the Bears, Brandon The Boy added 14 and Kalvin Bowen scored 12.

Providence (7-0, 1-0) will host Montana Western on Saturday while Rocky (5-2, 0-1) heads to MSU-Northern on Friday.
