Providence 9th, Montana State-Northern 17th in latest NAIA rankings

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Providence is ninth and Montana State-Northern 17th in the latest NAIA wrestling top 20 poll, which was released Thursday.

The Argos, under first-year coach Steve Komac, climbed from 12th into the top 10 this week with 85 points. Providence is coming off a seventh-place finish at the National Duals in Louisville, Ky., where Shonn Roberts went 5-0 to earn Cascade Collegiate Conference wrestler of the week honors. Individually, Roberts is ranked third at 149 pounds. The Argos also have Casey Dobson (fourth at 157 pounds), Jordan Komac (ninth at 165), Hayden Schrull (13th at 184), John Hensley (sixth at 197) and Justin Harbison (sixth at 285) ranked individually.

Tyson Thivierge's Lights moved up one spot from their previous ranking of 18th. Individually, MSU-Northern has four wrestlers ranked: Clayton Currier (18th at 141 pounds), Chase Short (15th at 174), Isaac Bartel (second at 195) and Jase Stokes (10th at 285).

Both Providence and Northern are set to compete at the Missouri Valley Invitational at Marshall, Mo., on Friday and Saturday.

Meanwhile, former Sidney High School standout Gresh Jones, now a senior at Dickinson State, is still ranked first at 133 pounds. Jones recently placed second at the Hastings College Open, posting a 3-1 record. He lost to Tyler Lawley of Newman, who is ranked sixth in NCAA Division II, in the finals. Jones and DSU will also compete at the Missouri Valley Invitational.
