GREAT FALLS -- Carson McGinness, a senior at Centerville, has agreed to join the men's basketball program at the University of Providence, according to a media release from the university.

McGinness is a multi-sport standout for the Miners, excelling in football, basketball and track and field. He originally signed to play football at the University of Montana Western after an all-state senior season at quarterback for Centerville.

McGinness' first passion, though, is basketball, and he was able to parlay that into an opportunity with the Argos. McGinness was an all-conference choice in District 8C his sophomore and junior seasons and then earned all-state honors this past season as a senior. He helped the Miners to two wins at the Northern C divisional tournament, their first wins at divisionals in 31 years.

"Carson is a pure scorer," UP head coach Steve Keller said in a media release. "He is capable of hitting five or six 3-pointers on any given night. He is another local athlete and we are excited to watch him progress as an Argo."

McGinness, who is a member of the National Honor Society and a four-time academic all-state selection, plans on studying forensic justice at Providence.
