HELENA -– The No. 7 University of Providence men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season at the hands of the No. 23 Carroll College Saturday night, losing 88-93.
In a matchup of the only two remaining unbeaten teams in the Frontier Conference, the Fighting Saints (4-0, 13-3) had the lead for the majority of the game. The Argos cut the deficit to three with twelve seconds left but couldn't convert on the three-point opportunity.
"We didn't play great," head coach Steve Keller said. "Give them credit, they played pretty well. They made some big threes. We got down late and had a chance to tie it. I like that our guys didn't quit or lay down. We were right there."
Zaccheus Darko-Kelly scored 33 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and had five assists for the Argos. He shot 7 of 9 from beyond the arc and 11/18 from the field. Rashee Stocks contributed 18 points and four rebounds while Brandon Cotton scored 14 points and had 5 assists.
Jovan Sljivancanin led the Saints with 22 points and had 10 rebounds. Dane Warp and Shamrock Campbell both netted 17 points.
The Argos will look to rebound on the road against Montana Tech on January 16 at 7:30 p.m.
"I told the guys that we're 15-1," Keller said. "Nobody in here thought we'd be 15-1 at this point in the season. We have to watch the film and figure out what we did wrong. But we'll be ready to go."
