MISSOULA – The annual Grizzly Scholarship Association Spring Tour gets underway on May 11 in Bigfork with two new golf events added to the calendar for 2018.

Following a hugely successful first-ever social and BBQ in Billings in 2017, the 2018 edition of the GSA Spring Tour is expanding once again in the Magic City with the inaugural Grizzly Golf Fundraiser on May 25, raising proceeds specifically for Griz football.

A golf scramble has also been added to the day’s festivities in Hamilton on June 6 with the traditional Griz BBQ and social following soon after.

The 2018 Grizzly convoy is set to make 14 stops around the state, logging nearly 4,000 miles while visiting local GSA chapters and spreading the good word of Grizzly athletics from the mountains to the prairie.

Over the course of five weeks from mid-May to early June, GSA chapters from Ronan to Sidney and beyond will roll out the welcome mat with barbecues, golf outings, and socials, giving local fans the chance to meet the Griz.

Grizzly Athletics representatives set to travel the state include athletic director Kent Haslam, head football coach Bobby Hauck, head men’s and women’s basketball coaches Travis DeCuire and Shannon Schweyen, just to name a few.

“The GSA Spring Tour is an awesome time of year. Our fans have a huge impact on our program, and the GSA Spring Tour allows us to both thank them for their loyalty and raise funds for student-athlete scholarships,” said senior associate AD and GSA executive director Greg Sundberg.

“With two new golf events planned for 2018, there are more chances than ever for our fans to enjoy time with our coaches and staff.”

The annual loop of the state kicks off next Friday, May 11, as the caravan heads north to Big Fork for the Grizzly Golf Classic at Eagle Bend Golf Course, before heading east of the divide to Lewistown, Great Falls, Cut Bank, Fort Benton, then back to Ronan the following week, May 14-18.

May 22-25 will see the Grizzly roadshow hits to the Hi-Line with stops in Havre, Glasgow, and Sidney before making a return to Billings.

The Billings GSA chapter will once again host a barbecue and social at the Billings Hotel and Convention Center with appearances from Hauck, DeCuire, and Schweyen, as well as Grizzly softball coach Melanie Meuchel and more.

Stops in Helena, Butte and Hamilton round out the tour, with the Grizzly Conoco Golf Classic in Missoula on June 8 completing the schedule.
