MISSOULA — Montana Head Coach Bobby Hauck unveiled the incoming Griz football class of 2018 in its entirety on Wednesday, his first signing class since returning to UM in November.
The Grizzlies added 26 new student-athletes to the roster, signing 15 players during the early signing period in December, and adding another 11 on National Signing Day.
Of those 26, exactly half (13) hail from Montana, with four coming from Kalispell’s Glacier Wolfpack, coached by former Griz Grady Bennett.
Three more from the class will stay in their hometown of Missoula, reflecting the importance that Hauck has placed on in-state talent.
“We are very excited about this class, and I think our coaches did a great job putting it together,” said Hauck. “We have a lot of Montana kids, a lot of size, and big frame guys. It was a good haul for us, and would lend you to say the future is bright for Grizzly football.”
The class also has a family feel to it, with Hauck’s son Robby joining the program from Northern Arizona, and Offensive Line Coach Chad Germer’s son Nick also following in his father’s footsteps as member of the team.
While the class is Montana-heavy, signees have joined from as far away as Pennsylvania and Southern California. The class leans more towards the offensive side, bringing in 16 players on that side of the ball, including six offensive linemen and three projected tight ends.
Defensive coordinator Kent Baer’s defense adds nine players and one punter will also join.
