HELENA – Tony Arntson has watched from afar as his college roommate at the University of Montana, Tim Hauck, has carried out a successful NFL career – first as a player, now as a coach.
But Arntson, the former Great Falls CMR and Griz quarterback, who has been the Helena High head football coach for the past 24 seasons, saw the desire in Hauck’s eyes to win at the biggest stage – the Super Bowl. That dream came true Sunday evening when Hauck, the safeties coach for the Philadelphia Eagles, helped the organization win its first Super Bowl and fourth NFL championship.
“I’m just so happy for him. In all the years he played in the NFL, 13 or 14 years, whatever it was, there were like three different times when he left teams and the next year that team went to the Super Bowl, so he missed out on three opportunities by a year,” said Arntson. “Just to watch Tim get an opportunity to coach in that game, and obviously win it, it was awesome. I can’t wait to get up to Georgetown (Lake) and do some fishing and hear some stories this winter.”
Hauck and his brother, Bobby, who was recently hired as head coach of the Montana Grizzlies for the second time, each hail from Big Timber.
