BOZEMAN – The Montana State Bobcats have had an amazing offseason, raking up high-talent recruits from across the nation, but they lost a big piece in Bozeman. Starting kicker Gabe Peppenger has left the team, according to Skyline Sports.

The rising junior spent two years as a starter after Luke Daly served a suspension while Peppenger was a freshman and then when Daly lost his job to Peppenger in mid-September, causing the senior to leave the team, as well.

Peppenger, a Missoula Sentinel graduate, was a combined 14 of 21 on field goal attempts in the past two years. The university has not announced the reason for his departure.

Bobcats wide receiver Hunter Mahlum also left the team after medically retiring because he re-tore the labrum in his shoulder. Mahlum’s father, Tom, was a member of the 1984 national title team.
