BOZEMAN – The Rocky Mountain College ski team opened the 2018 season at the Big Sky Resort at the MSU Invitational the past three days. The event featured Giant Slalom races on Saturday and Sunday and wrapped up with Slalom races on Monday.
Lisa Hiltula had a strong opening event for the Battlin’ Bears behind a 25th-place finish in the Slalom on Monday. After sitting in 32nd after a first run of 55.15 seconds, Hiltula completed her second run in 55.31 seconds to finish at 1:50.46.
Hiltula also recorded finished of 44th and 50th in the Giant Slalom races on Sunday and Monday respectively.
Susan Beks completed her two runs on Tuesday in 1:56.18 to place 31st overall. She placed 45th in Sunday’s Giant Slalom race after completing two runs in 2:17.33. Her first run of 1:07.76 was the fastest by a Rocky skier over the four trips down the hill.
Sean McCormick led the Rocky men in all three races. He began the season by finishing 62nd in the Giant Slalom on Saturday after a combined time of 2:22.36. McCormick then finished 51st on Sunday at 2:14.97 before closing out the week by placing 49th in the Slalom with a mark of 1:51.35.
Adam Garrigus also finished all three races for the Battlin’ Bears. He was 55th in the Slalom on Tuesday with runs of 1:02.43 and 1:00.43. Garrigus placed 79th on Saturday and then 67th on Sunday.
The event was a regular season contest in the RMISA and featured several of the top NCAA programs in the country.
Rocky now heads to Huntsville, Utah where they will compete in the Utah Invitational. The event features the women’s GS on Thursday, men’s GS on Friday, and both Slalom races on Saturday.
