HAVRE -- Wednesday was early national signing day for college football, and one Hi-Line standout made it official that he’ll be staying in the Treasure State.

Havre’s Kellen Detrick officially signed to play football for the University of Montana on Wednesday after announcing his commitment to the Grizzlies back in August.

"It feels incredible. It's a relief. It's a dream come true and I'm very excited about the future," Detrick said.

Detrick was a two-time all-state defensive end for the Blue Ponies and will likely continue to play that position for the Griz. Detrick was one of the highest-ranked recruits in Montana, and he’s also a star basketball player at Havre High.

He picked Montana over numerous other offers, including Montana State, Northern Arizona and even FBS programs Nevada and Washington State.

"I'm a Montana guy. I love everything about Montana, Missoula. The coaching staff showed an incredible amount of interest in me and that ended up being the deciding factor, was the coaching staff," Detrick said. "They have a winning tradition. They consistently win and they consistently get better. And (head coach Bobby Hauck) is doing a great job up there. And I can't wait to play for him."
