DENVER - Wrapping the last of three nights of action from the PBR (Professional Bull Riders) Pendleton Whisky Velocity Tour (PWVT) Denver Chute Out at the National Western Stock Show, Taylor Toves (Stephenville, Texas) shined ahead of all 91 competitors who entered the event.
The 2019 PBR Rookie of the Year candidate put together a 2-for-3 performance to earn the event title. After a Round 1 88 aboard Shakin (Owens/Wyatt/Smith) earned him a third-place finish, Toves capitalized on his Round 2 draw to jump to the top of the event leaderboard.
Jack Hammer (Cervi Championship Rodeo) provided the firepower while Toves provided the finesse, with the two combining for 89.5 points and the Round 2 win.
With a 4.5-point lead on second-place heading into the championship round, Toves wasn’t able to make the 8, bucking off of Bullseye (Owens/Wyatt/Smith) in 2.08 seconds. But the lead was just enough for the young Texan to get the event win.
Along with the coveted Denver Chute Out buckle, Toves pads his pocket with $22,125.46 and earned 40 world points. Toves is now No. 21 in the world standings.
Three-time Wrangler NFR qualifier and 2019 PRCA reserve world champion Boudreaux Campbell (Crockett, Texas) earned himself a second-place finish with his 2-for-3 performance during the three-day event.
After finishing second in Round 1 with an 88.5-point ride aboard Redman (Cottonwood Bucking Bulls), Campbell covered his Round 2 draw Smokin’ Gun (Hodges/Shuler) for 87.5 points.
In need of a comeback to take home the title, Let’s Gamble (Hodges/Shuler/Flying S) provided the bull power, but Campbell was sent flying to the dirt after 5.16 seconds.
Campbell’s 173 points on two rides earned him a check for $16,423.02 and 27.5 world points. The Texas cowboy is now No. 29 in the world rankings.
Third-place for the event was taken by PBR regular Marcus Mast (Middlebury, Indiana) who also went 2-for-3.
The Indiana man covered Squeeze Box (Hodges/Shuler) in Round 1 for 85.5-points, then heard the 8 second whistle on-top of Redman (Cottonwood Bucking Bulls) for a score of 87.5 points in Round 2 to punch his ticket to the championship round.
In striking position on his last out of the night, Night Sweats (Plummer/Hart Cattle Co.) tossed Mast to the dirt in 2.85 seconds.
For his performance on the week, Mast leaves the National Western Stock Show $8,819.77 richer, and with 14.5 new world points. Mast now sits in the No. 28 spot in the world.
Andrew Alvidrez (Seminole, Texas) owns the fourth-place spot at the end of the three rounds of competition.
An 84.5-point conquering of Dynamite Cap (Hart Cattle Co./Randy Wood) in Round 1 along with 86 points provided by Ponotoc (Broken Arrow/Dewey/Perry) in Round 2 had Alvidrez in the hunt heading into the championship round.
Mr. Clean (Cottonwood Bucking Bulls) dispatched the young Texan in 3.71 seconds during the championship round, locking in the fourth-place finish.
Along with eight world points, Alvidrez leaves the Mile High City with $5,550.37.
Utah’s Josh Frost (Randlett, Utah) rounded out the Top 5 of the event. Another cowboy that went 2-for-3, Frost bested Whiskey Throttle (Owens/Wyatt/Smith) for 84.5-points in Round 1.
During Round 2 fans erupted as Frost reached the whistle aboard Udder Lover (Hart Cattle Co./Hale/Randy Wood), earning an 84.5-point ride.
The championship round was also unfriendly to Frost, who hit the dirt in 4.62 seconds, failing to match the moves of Short Pop (Hart Cattle Co./Hale).
Frost earned himself $3,725.59 and five world points with the fifth-place finish, pushing him to No. 71 in the world standings.
