FORT WORTH, Texas -– With the introduction of the ProRodeo Tournament in the new Dickies Arena, opportunities for contestants have increased at the 124th edition of the Fort Worth Stock Show Rodeo. Taking advantage of those opportunities over the weekend were tie-down roper Matt Shiozawa from Chubbock, Idaho, steer wrestler Jacob Edler of State Center, Iowa, and Roff, Oklahoma’s bull rider, Trevor Kastner.

Kastner was the high-money earner as he got a bonus when other bull riders failed to last eight seconds. The two-time champion in the Will Rogers Memorial Coliseum won both rounds of the bracket and collected $4,327.

Kastner was one of three successful riders on Saturday night, then one of two on Sunday. He had scores of 86 then 89. His 89 on Sunday afternoon was aboard United Pro Rodeo’s bull named Black Knight and garnered the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo qualifier $2,420.

Shiozawa and Edler also won both rounds of this bracket adding $3,520 to their checking accounts. Edler’s time on Sunday of 3.9 seconds was the fastest steer wrestling time of the rodeo which began on January 24. He was one-tenth of a second slower to win Saturday night’s round. Edler was riding Matt Reeves’ steer wrestling horse of the year Rattle for both wins.

Consistency was key for Shiozawa stopped the clock in 7.2 and 7.3 seconds. These men are all making their plans to be back here for the semifinals.

The final bracket of the ProRodeo Tournament starts on Monday night at 7:30 p.m. and concludes Tuesday when the field for the Wildcard and Semi-Finals will be set.
