CASTLE ROCK, Colorado -- Deer Lodge cowboy Chase Brooks scored 86 saddle bronc points during the first performance and it held through the final two rounds for a first-place payday. Brooks' ride on Summit Pro Rodeo’s Sacajawea added $2,992 to his season earnings and will help his position in the world standings. Brooks is fifth, but hoping to improve his position and ride for his first world title at his second NFR next December.

It took 12 years and half a point, but there is a new arena record in the bull riding at the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo.

Dallee Mason from Weiser, Idaho, was the man to do it. Mason rode Summit Pro Rodeo’s bull named High 5 for a score of 87.5 points. That gave him the win at the Medved PRCA Rodeo and set a record. The previous record was set in 2007 by Texan Chad Eubank with a score of 87.

Mason joined the Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) in 2012 and while he has been consistently among the best 50 bull riders in the standings, he has yet to move into the top 15 that qualify for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo (NFR). That probably won’t happen in 2019 either, in spite of him beating several NFR qualifiers here. Prior to the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo, he was 33rd in the world standings and is $33,025 behind the man in 15th place.

However, he did add $3,440 to his earnings which will help his position. The regular rodeo season concludes on September 30. There are still plenty of rodeos to go to in the next seven weeks, but he is going to need to win a pile of money at lots of them to make up the deficit.

In the bareback riding, rookie Jesse Pope from Marshall, Missouri scored 86 points on Summit Pro Rodeo’s Trailer Home during the third performance to move into first. That ride added nearly $3,000 to his checking account. Pope is in the lead for the rookie of the year title and the win here will certainly help him achieve that goal.

This year’s Douglas County Fair & Rodeo PRCA competition started August 1 with the Xtreme Bulls. August 2 – 4 featured PRCA as well as Women’s Professional Rodeo Association contests. Nearly $100,000 was paid out through the bull riding and the rodeo.

The committee kept a close eye on every detail throughout the rodeo and is critiquing it and making plans for next year.

PRCA and WPRA results from the Douglas County Fair & Rodeo presented by Medved.
