GREAT FALLS — Sources confirmed with MTN Sports on Tuesday that Steve Komac, the head wrestling coach at Great Falls High since 2003, will take over as interim head coach of the University of Providence wrestling program.
Luis Carranza, Komac's assistant at Great Falls High, will take over the Bison.
Komac replaces Caleb Schaeffer, UP's wrestling coach of nine years, who was placed on administrative leave in August after being linked by court documents to a human trafficking case.
Komac led the Bison to three Class AA state wrestling championships, winning titles in 2013, 2014 and 2015. GFH also had a runner-up finish in 2012 and third-place finishes in 2007, 2008, 2009 and 2010. Komac coached more than 30 individual state champions with the Bison, including four-time champion Cole Mendenhall (2009-12).
