Joey Moore, Jake Hedge lead after Day 1 of 103rd Men's State Amateur golf tournament

BILLINGS -- Defending champion Joey Moore and Jake Hedge are tied after Day 1 of the 103rd Montana State Amateur golf tournament at Yellowstone Country Club in Billings. Moore and Hedge each fired a 2-under-par 70s on Thursday.

Moore, a Billings West High graduate and current San Diego State golfer, played a nearly flawless round, picking up birdies on the Par-5 7th, Par-4 10th and Par-5 16th, but he bogeyed the Par-4 14th to finish at 2-under-par. Hedge carded six birdies and three bogeys on his round. He was 3-under through 16 but bogeyed 70 to drop back to 2-under.

Billings Central graduate and current Wyoming golfer Liam Clancy is tied for second with Montana Tech's Sean Ramsbacher after both shot 1-under 71s. Clancy had four birdies and three bogeys spread throughout his round. Ramsbacher had a red-hot finish after shooting a 4-over 40 on the front. Ramsbacher birdied No. 12, then carded birdies on the final four holes of the day to finish at 1-under.

Riley Kaercher, Josh Hedge, Caleb Trost and Brady Cady are in a tie for third at even par.

Ramsbacher and Moore are scheduled to tee off at 1:35 p.m. on Friday.
