BILLINGS — The Billings Cattle Punchers, the city's Tier II junior hockey team competing in the North American Hockey League, are officially announcing their inaugural tryout camp scheduled for August 6-8.
The multi-day evaluation camp will serve as a crucial milestone for the franchise as general manager of hockey operations Nick Dreyer, head coach Steve Haddon, and the hockey operations staff finalize the competitive roster for the team's historic debut season at the new Signal Peak Energy Arena.
The tryout sessions held on Aug. 6, 7, and 8 will be fully open to the public, allowing local fans and hockey enthusiasts to watch prospects aged 17 to 20 showcase their skills in front of the Cattle Punchers coaching staff.
"We want good people, not just good hockey players. We want guys that are going to be good in the community because this is going to be their second home," said Haddon regarding the talent evaluation process.
The camp will culminate Saturday, Aug. 8, with an all-star game which will be open to the public as a ticketed event for fans eager to get their first look at the new team.
Tickets will be available at the door, or on the Cattle Punchers website. Season seat holders will be able to attend at no additional cost. Gates are set to open at 4 p.m., with the puck drop at 5.
