BOZEMAN -- A day after Southern Utah canceled its men's basketball games with Montana State, the Thunderbirds have now canceled their scheduled women's basketball games with the Bobcats.
A media release from SUU stated that "the Thunderbird women's basketball program has paused all activities following multiple positive COVID-19 tests amongst their Tier 1 individuals."
"We knew that this might be something that we would be dealing with following the holiday season, so we are not surprised, but we are disappointed that our women's team will be unable to play this weekend," SUU athletic director Debbie Corum said in the release. "Obviously, our main concern right now is taking care of the individuals that tested positive. Our top priority is that these student-athletes receive the proper care."
The women's basketball games were scheduled to be played Dec. 31 and Jan. 2 at Cedar City, Utah.
The Bobcats (2-3 overall) will now reset with hopes of opening their Big Sky Conference schedule on Jan. 7 and 9 at home against Northern Colorado.
The Thunderbirds are 3-2 overall this season and, like Montana State, have yet to play a Big Sky Conference game. SUU's scheduled Big Sky games with Montana on Dec. 3 and 5 were also canceled.
