ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. — Four western Montanans have finished their opening rides at the National High School Finals Rodeo.

Missoula’s Mckenna Schroeder circled the arena in 18.494 seconds and ranks 94th after one round of barrel racing. She finished second at state.

Taylor Harris of Florence and her team roping partner Nathan Ruth Jr. of Big Timber did not record a time in their first ride. They finished third in the Montana standings.

Polson’s Caden Fitzpatrick did not record an eight-second ride in his first bull riding attempt. He also finished third in state.

Each cowboy and cowgirl will ride for a second time at the National Finals between Wednesday evening and Saturday morning. The top 20 in the average will advance to the championship round on Saturday night.
