International Olympic Committee announces new dates for Tokyo Olympics

The suspended Olympic Games officially have a new date.

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced the XXXII Olympiad Games originally scheduled for this summer in Tokyo, Japan, will be celebrated July 23 - Aug. 8, 2021. The International Paralympic Committee (IPC) announced its games will be held Aug. 24 - Sept. 5, 2021.

The IOC and IPC, along with the Tokyo Organizing Committee, Tokyo Metropolitan Government and Government of Japan held a conference call on Monday, March 30, and agreed to the new schedule.

The 2020 Games were originally scheduled for July 24 - Aug. 9, 2020, while the Paralympic Games were set to be held Aug. 25 - Sept. 6, 2020).

Multiple Montanans were Olympic hopefuls, including former Havre and University of Montana track and field standout Sammy Evans, who has been training in Arizona with high-profile coach Larry Todd.

"I finally was where I wanted to be, at least where I thought I would have a shot," Evans told MTN Sports. "Then things kind of came crumbling down."
