ST. GEORGE, Utah — Billings golfer Brandon McIver is in prime position to advance halfway through Stage 1 of Tour Qualifying School.

McIver blistered the course at SunRiver Golf Club Tuesday in St. George, Utah, shooting a 9-under-par 61 to climb within four strokes of the lead. His score was one stroke off the low round of the day turned in by co-leader Taylor Pendrith of Canada.

McIver, at the tournament’s halfway mark, holds sole possession of sixth place at 10-under-par. There are 72 players in the field at SunRiver. The top 21 plus ties advance to Stage 2 of qualifying school. Co-leaders sit 14-under-par while the current cut line is estimated at 5-under.

McIver carded nine birdies and no bogies on Wednesday, including birdies on three of the last four holes. He shot a 1-under-par 70 in the opening round on Tuesday. The tournament concludes Friday.

If McIver reaches the second stage of Q School, he’ll play at TPC Craig Ranch in McKinney, Texas, Nov. 6-9. The final Tour qualifier is one month later in Chandler, Ariz., Dec. 6-9.

McIver is a 2012 graduate of Billings West High School.
