PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Another swimmer from the Billings Aquatic Club has qualified for the 2020 Olympic Trials.
Peter Thompson, who is home schooled, raced the 1,500 free in a time of 15 minutes, 35.51 seconds at the USA Swimming Junior Nationals, placing him sixth in the nation.
According to BAC coach Sean Marshall, Thompson now owns the 46th-fastest time in USA Swimming History among competitors in the 15-16 age division and is Montana's fastest ever heading into his junior year of home school.
BAC swimmer Jack Leuthold, who is headed to the University of Wisconsin on a swimming scholarship this fall, dropped 18 seconds in his event to finish in 15:52. According to Marshall, that breaks the 17-and-over Montana state record. Leuthold won his heat Tuesday with his future University of Wisconsin coach in attendance. He swam well below the long course Junior National cut as he chases his Olympic Trials bid.
