Billings Mustangs earn 4th shutout, 3-0, over Great Falls Voyagers

BILLINGS — The Billings Mustangs (14-21) picked up their fourth shutout win of the season on Monday when they topped the Great Falls Voyagers (13-20) 3-0 in front of 2,536 at Dehler Park.

After retiring the side in order in the first, Jason Morgan (0-3) gave up three runs on five hits and a walk in the second. Eric Yang led off the inning with a solo home run to left. Six of the first seven to come to the plate for Billings were able to reach including an RBI double for Jonathan Willems and an RBI single for Quin Cotton. For Willems, it was his team-leading eighth double of the season.

That was the extend of the scoring for either side as the game stayed 3-0 the rest of the way.

Carlos Carreno (2-3) threw five scoreless innings in the start for Billings. Carreno gave up three hits, walked a season-high four batters and struck out three. He was backed up by one inning of work each from Manuel Cachutt and Jeffry Nino before Ian Koch tossed the last two innings of shutout ball to record his first professional save.

Matt Lloyd went 2-for-4 at the plate for the Mustangs, picking up two singles on the night.

The shutout victory was the fourth of the season for Billings and the second of this homestand. It was additionally the second time they have shut out the Voyagers this season.

The Mustangs and Voyagers play in game two of their three-game series July 23. First pitch is set for 6:35 p.m. MDT at Dehler Park.
