GREAT FALLS- One season after winning the Pioneer League title, the Great Falls Voyagers began their title defense by dropping the home opener against the Missoula Osprey 6-1 on Friday.

The Voyagers opened the scoring in the bottom of the first after Luis Mieses grounded into a fielder’s choice, scoring Kelvin Maldonado, who reached third on a single and an error in the previous at-bat.

Missoula would tie the game 1-1 in the top of the second when Liover Peguero scored on a Sean Thompson balk. In the top of the third, the Osprey put up five runs, including three from a bases-clearing double by David Sanchez.

Despite a late rally attempt by Great Falls in the ninth, Missoula would allow just three hits the rest of the evening, making them 1-0 on the season. Great Falls fell to 0-1.
