MISSOULA – We watch Grizzly and high school track stars all spring in Missoula. But many of them start running years before with the Missoula Youth Track Club.

The organization held its first meet of the year on Thursday evening at Dornblaser Field. They have over 400 kids from kindergarten through 8th grade participating in the 20th year of Missoula Youth Track. And they receive instruction from about 80 high school athletes that volunteer as coaches, and remember their first time on the track.

“It’s really cool to be able and come out here and give back,” said Missoula Sentinel senior and future Montana Grizzly football player Elias DeWaters. “I mean a lot of us were out here when we were smaller. It’s kind of fun to come out and see how these guys do and watch these guys grow throughout the season. Definitely a couple good hurdlers. We’ve got some throwers. But my specialty and my favorite, some jumps. So I am excited and ready to watch those.”

Missoula Youth Track will hold a second meet at Dornblaser Field on Wednesday, May 15th at 5:00.
