BELGRADE — The Central Valley Fire Department and the Belgrade Police held their fourth annual charity softball game Saturday at the Belgrade Sports Complex.

The event is titled ‘Guns n Hoses’ and every year a charity is picked for the money raised to be donated.

This year, the fire department chose Coats for Kids, a charity out of Kalispell that donates coats to families that cannot afford them.

“The goal of this event is to just raise money for charity,” Sergeant Chuck Sprague said. “We’re all friends here, but it gets pretty competitive sometimes. In the end, the winners are the charities.”

Families and friends were invited for an entertaining night out, watching their favorite local superheroes decked out in wigs, crazy sunglasses, and tutus.

The fire department currently leads the charity competition 3-1, but Sgt. Sprague says its all about the fun.

“We just have a good time,” he said. “It’s a time to not worry about work and stress out about the things we do when we normally see each other. We just have a good time together.”

The fire department added another win to its column on Saturday, defeating the police 17-13. The event raised $555.75 total for Coats for Kids.
