Bozeman Karate heading to Nationals

BOZEMAN — Fourteen Bozeman karatekas are heading to Reno, Nevada for the USA Karate National Championships on Wednesday. This large number is quite exciting for the dojo since last year they had only three athletes competing.

The national championship will evaluate the athletes in Kata, Kumite, and Short and Long Weapons. They will be competing by gender, age group, and skill level.

According to the owner of the gym and black belt Adam Boyd, his team has been preparing for this event for awhile.

“They’ve all done really well this whole season, so there is no reason why they can’t go there and win a gold medal,” Boyd said. “We’ve been training the competition team, extra practice every week since November just to train for the tournaments, and we’ve stuck with that for nationals. (Monday) is their last competition practice before everybody heads to Reno.”

You can keep up with how the team does on MontanaSports.com or on USA Karate’s live stream.
