BILLINGS – Brooks Zimmer threw six innings of two-hit ball, and the Billings Royals allowed two or fewer runs for the seventh straight game Sunday as they defeated Premier BBC of Northwest Idaho 8-1 in the championship game of the Goldsmith Gallery Legion Against Cancer tournament at Dehler Park.

Premier took a 1-0 in the top of the first inning after Zimmer walked two of the first three batters, and then Cody Krull scored on an error with two outs. The Royals tied it immediately in the bottom half, as Jayden Kay singled to center to score Jarret Leinwand. Sam Evenson then drove in Dawson Smith and Kay with a single to right on the next pitch to give the home team a 3-1 lead.

Zimmer didn’t need anymore help, as he allowed just two singles over the next five innings. Dann Blanchard pitched a scoreless seventh to seal the win.

Leinwand finished 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI. Carson Klompien was 3-for-4 with a double.

The Royals outscored their opponents 37-5 in six games at the tournament. Their season record is now 32-4.
