BILLINGS – Pitchers Dann Blanchard and Cade Torgerson combined for 10 strikeouts Thursday as the Billings Royals beat Shadle Park, Wash., 6-2 at Dehler Park.
The Royals improve to 2-0 in the Goldsmith Gallary Legion Against Cancer baseball tournament, which drew 11 teams from around the region and continues through Sunday.
Batting a the visiting team, the Royals broke open a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning after Micheal Morehead stole second base. Two batters later, Connor Hunter drove him home with an RBI single to left field. Billings added two more in the fourth inning, one in the fifth and another pair in the top of the seventh.
Jarret Leinwand, Dawson Smith and Morehead each had three hits for the Royals. Blanchard pitched four innings and struck out six to earn the win. Torgerson picked up the save striking out four in three innings.
