MISSOULA – Flooding around the state, and specifically here in Missoula, has made it difficult for many community members to protect their homes or restore what has already been damaged. But one American Legion Baseball team is helping out.

On Friday afternoon the Missoula Mavericks A team was scheduled to practice, but a few team members had a better idea of what to do with that time. A few players got together and asked their coach, David Feeley, if, instead of putting on the gear and practicing, they could head to Orchard Homes and help with the flood relief efforts.

They spent the rest of the afternoon filling sandbags with the rest of community members volunteering their time. While coach Feeley says he was impressed by the team, he wasn’t too surprised they wanted to lend a helping hand.

“One of the things we instill in Mavericks players is being in the community, doing things in the community. There’s a lot of people that help us in the community. This is a great way for us to kind of give back,” said Feeley.
