Missoula Mavericks dig out of early hole to beat Helena Senators 13-7

MISSOULA – The Helena Senators got out to a great start, but the Missoula Mavericks got the final result. The hosting Mavs dug out of a 5-0 hole to defeat the Senators on Wednesday night, 13-7.

Helena scored five runs in the first two innings off of Mavericks starter Brendon Hill, but only one run was earned. Then Missoula started the comeback. The Mavs scored two in the second and three in the third to tie the game 5-5.

Missoula took the lead on a two-run single by Beau King in the fifth and scored four in the inning to lead 9-5. The hosts would extend the lead to 11-5 after the seventh.

Helena scored two in the top of the eighth to cut into the lead, but Missoula scored the final two runs in the bottom of the inning. Helena’s leadoff batter reached base in the top of the ninth, but the next three batters were retired to end the game.

Connor Daniels led the way on offense for the Mavericks with a 3-for-3 night at the plate, driving in three runs. King went 1-for-2 with his two RBI and also scored three runs. Sam Bucy finished 2-for-3 and scored three runs.

Matt Krieger, Colin Sassano and Riley Chisholm each collected two hits for the Senators. Grady Koenig went 1-for-4 and drove in two runs.

The two teams had a rough night in the field. The Senators committed five errors. The Mavericks made four.
