SAN ANTONIO – It takes bull rider Elliot Jacoby just over an hour to drive from his home in Fredericksburg to the San Antonio Rodeo and that is just one of the reasons he likes to compete here.

Jacoby qualified for the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in 2013 and 2014. The last few years have seen him struggle with injuries and just not riding to his potential. After getting married and having a daughter, the 27-year-old is more determined than ever. That determination has been evident since he got on his first bull in Bracket 3 in the AT&T Center. He bucked off that bull, but more than made up for it winning every round since then.

Jacoby’s two round wins in his bracket added up to $4,756. That put him in Semifinals 2 where once again he was at the top of the leaderboard.  On Thursday night, he rode Hi Lo Pro Rodeo’s bull named Quatro for 88.5 points to make his third trip around the arena horseback for the victory lap.           That ride on Quatro also earned him an additional $4,459 and brought his total earnings up to $9,215 here so far.

That is in second place behind Trevor Kastner, from Roff, Oklahoma, who was here for the first bracket, then made a quick trip home in time for the birth of his first child. McKenna Mae was born on Valentine’s day giving him just over a week at home with his family before he returned here to ride again.

Kastner was at the only successful bull rider in two of the three preliminary rounds. He also won the third round of his bracket and started the Semifinals with $14,269. Kastner finished second on Thursday night and now has total earnings here of $17,613, the most of all contestants entered here. He could add to that on Friday and Saturday at the rodeo as well as Saturday afternoon’s Xtreme Bulls competition.

Semifinals 2 will continue Friday night at 7 p.m. The top five money earners will advance to Saturday night’s finals where champions will be crowned and the bulk of the $1.7 million in cash will be distributed.
