MISSOULA – The Glacier Ice Rink hosted one of the most popular events of the year Friday night. The seventh annual Fire on Ice puts Missoula city firefighters versus Missoula rural firefighters, and the city guys also take on wildland firefighters in the first battle of the evening.

A packed house enjoyed the action and plenty of beer. But Fire and Ice also raises money for a number of charities: The Wildland Firefighter Foundation, Missoula Firefighters Benevolent Association and Missoula’s new sled hockey program. They held a silent auction, 50/50, and chuck a puck contests for prizes. Last year, Fire on Ice raised more than $12,000.

But don’t think it’s all for fun. The city and rural guys take the game seriously. For the second year in a row, the rural Raghorns came back in the third period to defeat the city Bombearos, 9-7.
