Ramon de Lima wins first PBR event of career

SACRAMENTO, Calif. – During an impressive weekend in front of record crowds in Sacramento, Ramon de Lima (Sao Paulo, Brazil) went on a mission to collect his first PBR (Professional Bull Riders) career event win, taking the PBR 25th: Unleash The Beast, Wrangler Long Live Cowboys Classic. The high-energy, three-day weekend was the highest attended in the history of PBR in California’s capitol city, including a sell-out, capacity crowd on Saturday night.

Lima went 4-for-4 over the three days and sealed the victory with an 89.5-point ride on More Big Bucks (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Staci Wilks/N Bar Ranch) to win the championship round. With the win, he added 715 world points launching him from No. 61 in the world to No. 3, collecting a paycheck of $40,625.

Luciano De Castro (Guzolandia, Brazil) finished second on the weekend also with a 4-for-4 performance, rocketing him from No. 26 to No. 9 in the world standings. Castro ended with an 88-point ride on Blue Stone (D&H Cattle Co/ Flying High Rodeo Co) in the championship round. For his efforts, Castro earned 330 points toward the world standings and $18,475.

2012 PRCA Champion Cody Teel (Kountze. Texas) secured a third-place finish after going 3-for-4 at Golden 1 Center, launching him from 30th in the world standings to 12th. Teel covered Deep Water (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/ Heald Pro) for 84.75 points in Sunday’s Championship Round. His impressive weekend earned him 270 points toward the world standings and $12,500.

Washington native Derek Kolbaba (Walla Walla) went 3-for-4 to finish the event in fourth place, his highest finish so far this season. Kolbaba covered Mortimer (Julio Moreno /Dallas Schott) in Round 3 for 86 points but was bucked off Red Bandana (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve/Staci Wilks/N Bar Ranch/ Chase Bass) in the Championship Round. For the finish, he picked up 140 points toward the world standings and a $6,475 paycheck.

Brennon Eldred (Sulphur, Oklahoma) and Emilio Resende (Santa Helena do Goias, Brazil) rounded out the Top 5 in a tie despite buck offs in the Championship Round. Eldred dominated Set ‘em Up Joe (Dakota Rodeo/ Chad Berger/ Clay Struve/H&C Bucking Bulls) for 87.75 points to win Round 3. Resende bucked off both of his bulls Sunday but rode Shelley’s Gangster (Dakota Rodeo/Chad Berger/Clay Struve) for 88 points to win Round 2 on Saturday. Both riders earned 105 points toward the world standings and $6,980.

The Top 35 bull riders in the world will now head down the freeway to Anaheim, California, for the 21st anniversary of the Anaheim Invitational at the Honda Center Feb. 2-3.

In other PBR action this weekend, Keyshawn Whitehorse (McCracken Springs, Texas) won the Real Time Pain Relief Velocity Tour (RVT) Lexington Classic event Saturday night in front of a crowd of more than 10,000 inside of Rupp Arena, one of the highest-attended Western events in the past 30 years.

Whitehorse rode Slow Ride (Mike Miller Bucking Bulls) for 87 points in the championship round. He earned $6,100 and 120 points towards the world standings, along with an invite to Iron Cowboy, the PBR’s second Major event of the year, in Arlington, Texas on Feb. 24.
