ASPEN, Colo. — Maggie Voisin made history on Saturday.
The 19-year-old Whitefish native became the first American woman to win Ski Slopestyle gold at the Winter X Games. Voisin put down a 92.33-point run her first time down the hill. That mark would hold up as the best in the event, giving Voisin her first gold medal.
Isabel Atkin of Park City, Utah placed second with an 88-point run. Swedish skier Jennie Lee Burmansson took the bronze medal with an 85-point run.
Voisin, who will participate in next month’s Olympics, had previously won two X Game medals — a Ski Slopestyle silver in 2014 and a Ski Big Air bronze in 20017.
Voisin will team with fellow Montanans Darian Stevens (Missoula) and Bradley Wilson (Butte) on Team USA at the Winter Olympics. Voisin and Stevens will compete in Slopestyle skiing, while Wilson skis moguls.
